Colombia National Congress Awarded "Kid Pambelé" with Grand Cross Knight

On July 20, the day Colombia celebrates its 216th year of independence, in a special ceremony at the National Capitol, the Congress of the Republic of Colombia awarded the Order of Democracy Simón Bolívar - Grand Cross Knight to former world champion Antonio Cervantes Reyes "Kid Pambelé," 80 years old, immortalizing his name in the popular culture and history books of that country for his extraordinary sporting career.

Pambelé became the country's first world boxing champion and the first major global triumph of Colombian sport in 1972, leaving an eternal legacy for generations in his country and the rest of Latin America.
