CROWD-favorite Joseph “The Hunter” Sumabong outslugged Jheng Ciou of Taiwan to win both the Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation and WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight titles last Saturday, July 11 in Tagbilaran City.
The 24-year-old Sumabong landed more punches to Ciou for a unanimous decision to steal the WBO Asia Pacific crown.
The three judges scored - 98-91 [Edward Ligas], 97-92 [Mohammad Aquil Tamano] and 99-90 [Don Yballe].
Sumabong improved his record to 11 wins, 1 loss and 5 knockouts while Ciou, 21, suffered his first loss against 9 wins, 1 draw with 8 knockouts.
Meanwhile, light-flyweight Shane “Sugar Shane” Gentallan [15-1-0, 7KOs] also of Bohol beat Xiaokang Song [6-4-0, 1KO] of China by a unanimous decision in the main supporting bout.
