SOUTHPAW Joey “The Babyface” Canoy of General Santos City will challenge undefeated WBO and WBA reigning champion Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo of Puerto Rico on June 20 in California, USA.
The 32-year-old Canoy is rated no. 5 in the World Boxing Organization [WBO] and no. 9 in the World Boxing Association [WBA].
“We're just focusing on training, focusing on Coach Edwardo's game plan,” said Canoy [25-5-2, 5KOs].
“We're just doing our best,” said Canoy.
Canoy is now sparring at Sanman Boxing at Gensan with former Philippine Youth light flyweight champion Kurt John Pabular [8-2-0, 5KOs] of Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
“It's really the first time, so we are all pouring out,” said Canoy.
Canoy recently beat Pablito Balidio of Bohol by a unanimous decision last March 14 in Matanao, Davao del Sur.
Canoy earlier stopped Minh Phat Sam of Vietnam by a technical knockout in the 10th round last April 2025 to win the WBC International minimum title in Gensan.
Collazo [14-0-0, 11KOs], on the other hand, has retired Jesus Haro of the USA in the 6th round last March 14 for the WBO World minimum title in Honda Center Anaheim.
