Veteran campaigner Jeffrey de Luna, the 2006 Doha Asian Games 9-Ball silver medalist, kept the Philippines alive, posting a hard-earned win over Clark Sullivan of New Zealand, 8-4, in the 2026 Yalin WPA Men's 8-ball World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri, USA on Monday, April 6,2026.
With his latest victory in the loser's qualification, De Luna set up loser's-round qualification matches with Stefan Kasper of Germany.
Also advancing were Sean Mark Malaya, who edged Joshua Filler of Germany, 8-7, and Lee Vann Corteza, who turned back Arseni Sevastyanov of Finland, 8-4.
However, Roberto Gomez was beaten by Radoslaw Babica of Poland, 7-8.
The week-long event offers $300,000 total prize with the champion getting the lion share of $90,000 while the runner-up place will earn $42,000.
In the winners qualification, Carlo Biado yielded to Skyler Woodward of the USA, 4-8.
In other losers qualification matches, Biado faces Vitaliy Patsura of Ukraine, Malayan versus Casper Cappe Matikainen of Finland and Corteza will tangle against Wiktor Zielinski of Poland. (Marlon Bernardino)
