Carcedo wins WBA Asia South super welterweight title

JHUN Rick “Iron Fist” Carcedo of Davao City stopped Yesitati Yeerken of China in the 8th round to win the vacant WBA Asia South super welterweight title last night, February 9 at the Villa Kristen Resort & Hotel in General Santos City.

The 26-year-old Carcedo already damaged Yeerken’s right eye in the 7th round, forcing the referee to check it out.

When fighting resumed, Carcedo still kept hitting Yeerken with left-right punches until the end of the round.

But in the 8th round, Yeerken turned his back after several blows by Carcedo, who lay down on the canvas with joy.

It was Carcedo’s 12th victory and 11 knockout win against four losses while Yeerken suffered his 8th loss against 10 wins and two draws.

Meanwhile, Jerald “Truman” Into of Zamboanga del Sur scored a technical knockout in the 3rd round against former PBF lightweight champion Ernie Sanchez of Gensan.
