WBA controversially drops undefeated John Michael Zulueta in the Top 15 rankings

UNDEFEATED John Michael “Striker” Zulueta of Negros Occidental has been dropped from the top 15 rankings of the World Boxing Association in the latest rankings causing a big controversy.

The 28-year-old Zulueta, who is now based in Bangkok, has recently fought by knocking out Oatkowit Kamlangcharoey of Thailand in the 1st round last October 26, 2023 at Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkokl.

Zulueta, who won his 16th victory and 9th knockout against three draws, also defended his 4th time as the Asian Boxing Federation light flyweight champion.

His manager-promoter Brico Santig has sought the help of the Games and Amusements Board under Chairman Richard Clarin.

GAB immediately wrote a letter to WBA president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza of Panama seeking for clarification on the sudden removal of the former no. 3 ranked Zulueta, who is still undefeated.

“We hope that the WBA can shed light regarding this matter,” said Clarin.

GAB appreciates the constant communication of the WBA for the development of professional boxing.

But Santig wants to inquire and clarify this matter.

“We need a valid reason or answer from them to give justice and respect to our Filipino boxers who deserve to fight for a world championship in the future. Hoping no politics behind this matter!!!," said Santig.
