Casama is new PBF featherweight champion

MICHAEL Casama of Matalam, North Cotabato is the new Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight champion after stopping veteran Ryan Rey “Mr. Pogi Jhongihong” Ponteras of Panabo City in the 8th round last night in Norala, South Cotabato.

The 22-year-old Casama, who is managed by Percy Anthony Consolacion, was also sent down by Ponteras early in the 5th round.

But Casama stood up to resume fighting. He used a straight right hand to stop Ponteras in 8th round and earned the vacant title.

Casama now has eight wins, all by knockout with one loss and one draw, while the 33-year-old Ponteras suffered his 19th loss against 23 wins and 3 draws.

In the co-main event, former interim WBA World Light flyweight champion Randy “Razor” Petalcorin of Davao City made a successful comeback via a 6th round unanimous decision over Jay Ar Diama.

The other results:

Richie Mepranum won by a 2nd round knockout over Dexter Alimento; Joshua Belicina beat Jerry Tabago by a unanimous decision; Jimler Cubay stopped Marzon Cabilla in the 1st round; Gabriel Santisima decisioned Rocky Sardido.

The boxing event was promoted by Sanman Boxing Promotion headed by JC Manangquil.
