BOSTON ? With Kyrie Irving knocked out of the game with a facial injury, the Boston Celtics rallied from an 18-point deficit to stun the Charlotte Hornets, 90-87, at the TD Garden.
Irving went down early in the opening quarter after getting hit by an inadvertent elbow from teammate Aron Baynes. The All-Star point guard was held scoreless and did not return.
Jayson Tatum led the Cetlics with 16 markers. Marcus Morried added 14 points while rookie Jaylen Brown had a solid triple-double of 10 points and 13 boards to help Boston win 11 straight. The Celtics kept their hold of the best record in the league with an 11-2 card.
The Hornets erected a 46-28 second quarter bubble, by knocking down high percentage shots in the perimeter. Kemba Walker and Frank Kaminsky, who combined for 34 points, orchestrated Charlotte's early onslaught.
But the Celtics slowly chipped away at the deficit before finally taking the lead at 80-79 with 5:29 to go in the final frame. Reserve guard Terry Rozier, who finished with 15 points and 7 dimes, sealed the deal with a pair of free throws for the final score.
